Introduction
This seminar will describe strategies that schools and community organizations can use to empower families of children with disabilities and increase their involvement in their child’s education. Parents are not only their children’s caretakers, but also their advocates and decision-makers. Schools and community organizations must work collaboratively to support them, so parents can become schools’ equal partners and will know how to be involved in the development of their child’s special education program.
2. Using Individualized Education Program to Involve Parents of Children with Disabilities

Introduction
Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a tool U.S. schools use to involve parents in the development of their child’s special education program. This seminar will describe what an IEP is, the process of developing an IEP, and how parents are involved in the process. This seminar will also discuss how this tool can be utilized in Hong Kong schools.
